Maze.ca a Nice Find in October 14 .CA TBR Drop Results

In today's .ca domain TBR drop, there were 107 .ca domains caught.  The best names this week were mostly decent one word domains, or two word combinations.

I didn't see any .ca domain sales reported last week, but there's a new DNJournal sales report coming out later today so we may see some when it's released.


It looks like sometime around October 7 all remaining NNNN.co domains were registered.  I believe all LLL.co and NNN.co domains are now registered too.  I hand registered a few LLL.co domains earlier this year when it looked like short domain prices were on the rise.  China has been a big part of sales and prices increasing, mostly in .com but also in .cc.  I figure if there is another extension buying pressure will move into next, it could be .co.  One reason is because it's similar in letters to .com, and another is that I noticed in Whois lookups that many NNNN.co were being bought by people and companies in Asia.  Prices for short letter/number .com's are moving up so quickly, and if they become out of reach investors might start looking for alternatives.


I've been keeping a list of NNNN.co domains this year and buying some every now and then, but all the names on my list got taken last week.  The last of them were all registered to someone in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China with an @qq.com email address.  They used Godaddy to register the domains.  Godaddy gives a good deal on first year .co registrations (under $10 US), but the renewal rate is higher at about $25 US (or $34.00 CAD).  I think for .co to keep their renewals active, the renewal price should be in the $10 to $15 range at most


I'm starting to see more posts in domain forums asking for LLL, NNN .co and .cc domains.  The .cc extension is ahead with more requests for LLLL.cc and NNNN.cc showing up.  I'd say if Asian investors can get excited by .cc domains, then .co isn't a far stretch away, expecially if the dotCo registry starts doing more marketing targeting Asian buyers. 


Who knows if this year's rise in short domain prices will continue, or if it will bust.  Is there enough buyers and cash to soak up all the short domains out there, or will this trend go out of favour?  For now I've made some small bets on LLL.co and NNNN.co domains.  I remember when you could hand register NNNNN.com domains and then they all got taken.  Still, it took years for 5N.com prices to rise significantly, but now they are selling very well.  The buying pressure (especially from China) didn't exist until recently, so has the game changed or will the boom deflate.  Regardless of what happens it's one of the most interesting stories of 2015.
