Superhome.ca a Top Property in Dec 2 .CA Drop, and 15 Years of .CA

This week's TBR had pretty average results for a .ca drop, with 114 .ca domains caught.  There were also a couple of aftermarket sales for .ca to report this week, which was nice to see.

Some news came out this week on the 15th year anniversary of .CA going public.  Back in 2000 the .ca domain extension became available for any Canadian resident to register.  Prior to that time you had to be a Canadian business to register a .ca.  I remember wanting to register .ca domains and not being able to at the start of 2000.  In the month or two leading up to general availability, you could pre-register the .ca domains you wanted and on the start date, if the name was available, you had it.  If there was more than one application for the same name, I believe it was a random draw.  I remember it was a bit exciting after general availability opened, waiting to see which names you got.  I remember getting much less than half of the names I put in for, and some I still have today.  Amazing to think it's already been that long!  Here is the press release that was issued by CIRA announcing the 15 year Anniversary.


The two .ca domains that were reported sold in the past week were:


Sonnet.ca  -  $5,500 US -  sold at Sedo


Approved.ca  -  $3,600 US -  sold at UnicDomains


Both of these names are still on parked pages and it's not clear yet what they will be used for.
