$4,000 .CA Domain Sale and January 15 .CA domain TBR Results

DomainReport.ca

The second .ca TBR of 2014 reverted back to its typical size, with 103 .ca domains taken in the drop.  As for .ca domain sales in the past seven days, there was no DNJournal.com sales report this week, due to the author attending the NamesCon domain conference in LasVegas.  However, I did see two .ca sales come across at Sedo and Godaddy/Afternic.

Those two sales were:

YouAreHere.ca  -  $4,000  -  sold at Godaddy/Afternic

AdZilla.ca  -  $849  -  sold at Sedo

YouAreHere.ca has a creation date going way back to November 2000.  The domain doesn't resolve and is currently registered at Godaddy.

AdZilla.ca goes to a parked Godaddy page, and (obviously) is also registered at Godaddy.  The owner shows as Insightu.com Inc, and they are located in Ontario Canada.  The domain was created in 2007.

Just a short note on the new gtlds, there are many new extensions available to pre-register or just about to launch, but personally I haven't completed one preregistration.  I've looked at the list of dozens of new gtlds that are closest to launch, and really am not ready to pull the trigger on any of them, even as a speculative investment.  I can see the right business or organization registering one and using it, but as a buy and hold speculation I don't see it yet.  We are still in a world where many people think a good .com  or cctld domain should be close to a reg fee price, or at most a few hundred bucks.  So while some of the new gtlds may get slow adoption by end users, the secondary market for them won't be there for a long while, except where the keyword is a killer match to the right of the dot word.  The gtld's I am more interested in (such as .web) will be coming available later this year or in 2015, in later rounds.

Back to the TBR, there were a few good names available this week, but very few exceptional names.  Some of the better ones were:

 5e.ca  (just because it's two characters)

 BlackHat.ca

 Jillian.ca

 OnlineStocks.ca

 MTU.ca

 Augers.ca

 Brianne.ca
