Today marks another small milestone for this .ca domain blog, in that it has surpassed a total of 200,000 page views since it's beginning. I realize some domain blogs get that traffic within a week or a month, but for a blog that focuses on a small country code domain that's not too bad! Much thanks to Domaining.com from where a lot of my traffic comes, and also Namebee.com which sends a little traffic too. It's great to be able to find all the domain blogs in one place, and I'm also one of those who checks in to Domaining.com almost every day to see the new domain headlines.
In yesterday's .ca TBR domain drop, there were 124 .ca domains grabbed. There was nothing too special in my opinion, but some of the better ones were:
OrganicPlus.ca
USO.ca
CDG.ca
SmartFactory.ca (nice startup name)
VisitJamaica.ca
Wheelbarrows.ca
BreadBox.ca
Thibault (common French surname)
There was one .ca domain sale reported at DNJournal.com this past week:
Zestra.ca - $1,200 - sold at Sedo
Although Zestra.ca currently doesn't resolve to a website, it appears that it was bought by Zestra.com, a seller of all natural essential oils and botanicals for women. So here is an example of a company buying their domain in a country code, to either protect their brand name or possibly for future marketing to Canadians.
On a recent trip to Vancouver, I noticed a lot of store signs and vehicle signs listed their domain name (mostly .com and .ca). One store even had just the domain name as their main storefront sign (ColorCopy.ca). Walking around the West End near Denman, most of the apartment and condo buildings had the property management company sign in front which included a domain name. It is amazing that when I lived in Vancouver about 20 years ago you would never have seen a domain anywhere, now you can't escape them. It makes me think that as most of the great .com and .ca domains get taken up, there might be room for some of the new gtld's for the people and businesses that will need a domain name in the future.
